This game is based on a small ball being sent spinning in the opposite direction to a spinning wheel that a range of numbers on it and slots into which the ball can fall. There are two versions of the game - American (38 slots) and European (37 slots). The numbers have either black or red colors. The game depends on luck and the skill come in understanding and applying the various betting possibilities. Careful placement of bets can help the player to spread the playing risk. Roulette Variations
In American roulette, the wheel has 38 slots because it has both the -0- and -00- slot. European roulette generally has only 37 slots - only a -0- which gives the players marginally better odds. Betting in Roulette is either an Inside Bet or an Outside Bet.
Inside Bets
Here the player has the choice of the greatest odds.
• Straight Up Bet - Placing a betting chip on just one number - odds are 35:1.
• Split Bet - Placing a betting chip on the line between two numbers - odds are half - 17:1.
• Street Bet - Placing a betting chip to cover a three-number row on the table - odds are 11:1.
• Corner Bet - Placing a betting chip on the crossed lines between four numbers - odds are 8:1.
• Five Number Bet - You are only betting on the numbers 0, 00, 1, 2 and 3. If you get this number, the odds are 6:1
• Six Number Bet - Placing a betting chip to cover two rows of three numbers each (on outside line of the two rows) - odds are 5:1.
Outside Bets
Here the player can hedge his or her bets by betting outside.
• Choose between red or black, high or low number, even or odd numbers - odds are 1:1.
• Choose whether the winning number will fall into one of three groups - 1-12, 13-24 and 25-36 - odds are 2:1. Column Bets - Choose which of three columns of numbers the ball might land on - odds are 2:1.
